When we get ready to drive a caravan for the first time we must change our mentality and understand that it is not a vehicle to use. It has its special characteristics in terms of height, width and stability, even sometimes it can seem that it has a life of its own and circulates independently of the vehicle that tows it.

However, operating a caravan is easy and comfortable by following a series of tips on safe driving that we comment on below:

• Anticipation: anticipating what is going to happen on the road is basic with any vehicle, but more so with caravans. The braking distance lengthens so you must be especially alert.
• Maneuver smoothly  (avoid steering, sudden braking and sudden downshifts), make sure to make wide movements and take a good look through the mirrors (the mirrors can protrude up to 20 cm from the width of the caravan). Keep an eye on the sides, front and back and remember that your vehicle now has special dimensions.
• Speed Legally allowed in Spain for caravans is 80 km / h on motorways and motorways. Respect it, overtake only safely and slow down in adverse weather conditions.
• Load: the maximum authorized weight (MMA) of the caravan must not exceed 80% of the vehicle tare. Pay attention to this recommendation when loading the vehicle and remember that a poorly distributed load implies premature wear and a change in the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, which endangers the safety of the occupants.
