We do not always value the obvious enough. The tire is the point of contact of our vehicle with the ground. And it is, therefore, one of its most important parts, if not the most. All our safety while driving depends on them, but also the comfort and behavior of the vehicle.
There is a specific tire for each thing, but all of them agree that they need certain care. And even more so in summer, when the heat hits. Cheap is not always the best thing to do. Also, if our motorhome has been idle for many months, the tires tend to warp and that can be the beginning of a scare.
The main thing, of course, is to keep an eye on its wear. The tire tread should be checked regularly to see how much life is ahead or if it has any unexpected damage. If this happens, it is vital to change the two wheels on each axle for the same model, so that the behavior and safety of our vehicle is not affected.
Correct use also influences its wear. Never drive with an overload and respect the maximum weight indicated on the vehicle. You also have to circulate with the right pressure, neither lower nor higher. This way, the tire will offer adequate rolling resistance and its wear will be more natural. In both cases, the consequence could be a dangerous blow-out blowout. Consumption and a good tire are closely related.
Pay attention to the balance of the wheels, which could create uneven wear between the wheels on each axle as well as other irregularities, causing the usual braking problems. And speaking of brakes, try to stop progressively and without suddenness. Skidding and spinning unnecessarily wear down the rubber and cause unevenness in the rubber.
Lastly, speed. It is inevitable that the tire will wear out, but speeding causes more wear and more temperature in the wheel, and can lead to loss of control problems. Naturally, summer and its high temperatures, especially in a country like Spain, contributes to this increase and therefore the margin is smaller.
Keeping an eye on the shock absorbers, a transitional element between the body and the wheel itself, is equally vital. As well as, for our economy, change the tires from the front to the rear axle every 15,000 kilometers in order to increase the duration.
Naturally, there are specific summer tires that are designed and manufactured to work under certain special conditions. They have a harder rubber to increase grip in higher heat conditions, and are also usually somewhat wider. They therefore offer a reduction in rolling noise and wear thanks to their lower resistance, although they will consume a little more fuel for the same reasons.
They are tires that. Of course, they should not be used below 7 degrees and their minimum drawing depth must be 1.6 millimeters, according to Spanish legislation. In those conditions, they reduce braking time and offer more grip while underway, but in other conditions, such as rain, they can contribute to hydroplaning. They offer, therefore, less grip in cold climates in which the winter or mixed tire is the most recommended.
